I’m Shannon Barrett. Like a lot of people, I’ve spent my life trying to be who I thought I was supposed to be: a good student, a good daughter, a good friend. I did what most other people did – I went to college, got a respectable job, got married, and bought a house. And that’s where I got stumped. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do next. The years stretched out ahead of me and I assumed I would keep following the script that I thought everyone else followed.
During the first part of my adult life, I worked with people in both the public and private sectors. For several years I managed large groups of volunteers. I worked with state legislators and city council members. I’ve also worked as a human resources director and have witnessed many different interactions between people; some good, some not so good. Through it all, I sensed there was something more. I kept searching, looking for that missing piece. I kept studying and learning, adding tools to my tool box.
I became a Martha Beck certified life coach. I studied Positive Psychology, the emerging focus on well-being. Now, I’ve put all these pieces together and I work with people to help them write their own script. I help people regain their focus, look inward, and discover what is important to them – right now, in this moment.
Because after all, that’s all we have – this moment.
And that’s all we have control over – ourselves.
It’s never too late to figure out what you really want in life. I’m ready when you are.
